Therefore, the natural support mechanism is weakened. Form an aesthetic point of view, a dark shadow appears near the bridge and the gap between the gums and bones widens more than the natural support system. Also, when chewing strength is added to the bridge, it forms a gap in between the bridge and the natural teeth, which progresses the dental caries and if it reaches the nerves, it increases the likelihood of requiring a root canal treatment in the future. If the bridge requires three or more teeth, flossing becomes difficult or may not be possible at all to do.

Out of the variety of options, we use mostly Biohorizon Company’s Laser Lok in which Dr. Carl E. Misch assisted in the development. It is backed by excellent literature and great clinical results.
Laser-Lok microchannel began with the development of the best implant surface treatment which is a patented technology researched over 20 years. Through research, it has been proven that the surface of the Laser-Lok prohibits apical migration of epithelial cells (differed from sharpie fibers) which can induce the biological reaction such as attachment to connective tissue. Due to an attachment like this, the area around the implant is blocked, protects and maintains the bone. From research upon marketing of Laser-Lok, its effectiveness was also proven compared to implants that suppress bone resorption.

Laser-Lok microchannel is a laser abrasion technology where implant color is precisely etched around the cell-sized groove. This very consistent microchannel (micro groove) is a perfect size for adhesion to osteoblasts and fibroblasts. Also, because Laser-Lok is an iterator type and nano structured as it is intended to increase the surface area, cell pseudopods and collagen fibers are added in.

Majority of the implant surface that is currently being sold are grit blasting or acid etching. When you rely on such methods, the surface shape becomes random and not smooth. Depending on the condition of the surface, cell responses change as well. Although random surface is proven to achieve higher content of osseointegration, the effectiveness of soft tissue attachment by optical microscopy, polarized light microscope and scanning electron microscope have been clear by Laser-Lok.
Clinical benefits for Laser-Lok in comparison with other companies’ implants have been researched and announced. From a prospective multicenter trial, it became clear that when using the same type of implant side by side, except for the difference in the surface processing, Laser-Lok was able to suppress 70% (1.35mm) of bone resorption at 37 months post operation. From a retrospective research by a private medical institution, Laser-Lok implant used for variety of surgical situations over 3 years, bone resorption was suppressed to 0.46mm. Also, a over denture prospective research at a university also showed that Laser-Lok implant suppressed bone resorption.
From a multicenter trial comparison of implants with Laser-Lok process and without over 3 years period showed a competitive advantage of Laser- Lok process on bone maintenance.
The acquisition of biological surface of the Laser-Lok lead to a research development of completely new field called abutment. This abutment constructs the biological blockade and acquires excellent osseointegration. This is a beneficial solution to both the bones and the soft tissues. Also, by mounting on an implant without Laser-Lok, it will promote the health of the area around the implant. Recent research praises the significant difference in mounting Laser-Lok abutment and conventional abutments on grit blasted implant randomly. For its principle of proof exam, the zone of microchannel from Laser-Lok process suppressed the epithelial apical migration (different from sharpey fibers) indicated the establishment of bonded connective tissue. Soft tissue adhesion was not only seen above the surface of implant and abutment but also on the machine colored implant surface as well. We have acquired knowledge that the level of alveolar crest bone was higher than the use of normal abutment and that there is a possibility of its usefulness in stability of the health.

Treatment Plan: Treatment plan is one of the most important process within the treatment as careful and intelligent observation determines its success. Also, depending on the situation, it may require 3 -D images to make sure the implant is correct.

Treatment Period: It takes a few months before the bones around the implant is joined with the implant surface.
Temporary Crown: In case the implant part appears easy, for esthetic purpose we may place a temporary crown during the treatment period.
Second Operation of Abutment Consolidation: When the treatment period is completed, abutment is consolidated to connect with the ceramic crown.
Attachment of Ceramic Crown: A skilled technician specialized in ceramics finishes a ceramics crown with correct specifications and is attached.
Anyone who is missing a tooth is a good candidate for dental implant. As far as age of the patient, it is okay to conduct the procedure for the older generation, however young patients should be cautious. Young patients who are in their early 10’s are still going through growth in facial bones and bones of the mouth and should avoid implants.
The best timing for an implant is immediately after the tooth came out or within a few weeks. However, we have successfully completed implant procedures for patients who have spent years after their tooth loss.
What’s most important is that the area near where the implant would be placed need to have healthy bones.

That is because the implant feels so natural, as if were their own, previous tooth.
In the last 30 years, RDC has successfully operated over 500 cases of implant. However, to successfully complete an implant, we have never encountered having to remove an old implant to place a new one.
Precise diagnosis and detailed treatment plan are essential in ensuring a success! We pay close attention so that the amount of strength applied to the oral cavity is appropriate. We avoid applying excessive pressure to the teeth or the implant in different directions or causing any damage.
While implants do not have long-term limitations, when the bone isn’t complete, we must use caution. Immediately after the implant has been restored normally, you should avoid chewing anything hard. It is necessary to slowly progress the hardness rather than quickly jumping into hard items.
Implants do not require any special cleaning methods. Using a tooth brush, floss, and interdental brush, clean your teeth two to three times a day as you do normally. Also, you should receive professional care from the dentist twice a year.
